So I was asked to copy and paste the entire results for my traceroute test to the Curtin website, and asked how many hops it had, Well there are 19 hops, but I am unsure of how to determine the average time it took. I will get back to this one I think.
The IP address for the curtin website is. 134.7.179.56 So I am gathering if you were to enter it into your browers, it would take you to the curtin website, Off to try that now.
Well I was kind of right lol. I got this message when I tried to access the IP address, bit its definately the curtin server! YAY

This one was fun! I really enjoyed this task.
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Learning Outcome
I have been using FTP for years and years for my web design work so this task for me was fairly easy. Although I don’t use the recommended programs from Curtin, I use a program called ACEftp, and have done so for more years then I care to remember.
My outcome for this task was as follows -
according to the readme file, ‘_______ MATTERS’ – what word goes in the blank?”.
The answer is CAPITALIZATION
Module 1, Task B: Blinkenlights My View.
Hmmm, this was interesting. I didn’t know what Telnet was a few hours ago, and now I am seeing all of these dancing letters made into pictures in front of me. Quite intriguing.
I remember being on my webmaster forum Ozzu.com and some of the guys on there taling about this, but I had no idea what they were talking about, now I do. I called them all geeks at the time, but who would have thought I would be learning about this now.
I am not to sure how Telnet would actually benefit me in my career as a web designer, but it is handy to know about if I ever need to search a catalogue, or something else which requires Telnet, but as a whole, blinkenlights didn’t really interest me.
Module 1, Task A: Telnet
I had never heard of Telnet before, I am running XP SP3, so it was already installed on my computer, and when I first opened it I had absolutely NO IDEA what I was doing, it took me over an hour to figure out how to connect, I actually felt really silly, then I realised I was already connected I just need a “O” command to connect to the address that was defined in our task, which waslibrary.deakin.edu.au.
After I finally worked out how to connect, I was quite shocked that telnet was able to perform such useful, basic skills, like emailing the results of my search, directly to my curtin email address! Although the email was very very basic, and I would probably forget in a few weeks what it was about because the information was very limited, it was good to step outside the box of Firefox for a few moments and experience how accessing the internet used to be.

My Top 5 Blogging Tips
As apart of NET11, we were asked to publish our top 5 Blogging tips to our learning log. I am not really new to the idea of blogging myself, but in my world blogs have been used for various different things, such as business websites, portfolios etc. So this is all really new to me, actually sitting down and writing my day to day learning experiences.
Without further ado, here are my top 5 blogging tips.
5: Keep it simple
This means the design and content. Make sure you use a design which isn’t going to hurt anyone’s eyes, or have them adjust their monitor brightness, make sure your text is easy to read and make sure there are no obstructions, like too many banners, ad’s or massively over the top graphics to distract the surfer from your aim – to get them to READ your blog!
Although your blog is your personal online “space” make sure you use “layman’s term’s”, don’t expect all your readers to be able to understand the meaning of words, you yourself had to look up on dictionary.com.
4: Be yourself!
Always be yourself, don’t be something your not to impress people on the internet. Your blog is your domain, and should be treated like you “virtual” bedroom. Relax, have fun, and remember to smile
3: Learn to TAG!
Unless your blog is personal and only meant for the eyes of your family and friends, then tagging will not really be worth much in your case, but if you want to broadcast your blog to the world, make sure you learn how to TAG! Most blogging software has built in tagging capability, use it! Search engine spiders will crawl your blog looking for these, and will submit these terms to search engines, so when a user types for example “burnouts” into the search engine, your blog will come up in the search listing!
2: Learn What Your Blog Can Do
I have been using wordpress as a platform for many of my clients websites, simply because it has so many capabilities, and so many awesome widgets. For example if you are a photographer and would like to rant about your photography expeditions, why not use wordpresses store plugin to sell the photos from your expeditions! Make sure you research all blog types and choose one which will suit your purpose the best!
1: Have Fun!
The number one tip about blogging is have fun! Unless you are a multi-million dollar corperation looking to make millions of dollars through a blog filled with pre amped sales blrubs, then just have fun! There are no real “rules” when it comes to blogging. Never take it to seriously!
