My Top 5 Blogging Tips

June 4, 2009 at 4:44 am (Blurbs) (, , , )

As apart of NET11, we were asked to publish our top 5 Blogging tips to our learning log. I am not really new to the idea of blogging myself, but in my world blogs have been used for various different things, such as business websites, portfolios etc. So this is all really new to me, actually sitting down and writing my day to day learning experiences.

Without further ado, here are my top 5 blogging tips.

5: Keep it simple

This means the design and content. Make sure you use a design which isn’t going to hurt anyone’s eyes, or have them adjust their monitor brightness, make sure your text is easy to read and make sure there are no obstructions, like too many banners, ad’s or massively over the top graphics to distract the surfer from your aim – to get them to READ your blog!

Although your blog is your personal online “space” make sure you use “layman’s term’s”, don’t expect all your readers to be able to understand the meaning of words, you yourself had to look up on dictionary.com.

4: Be yourself!

Always be yourself, don’t be something your not to impress people on the internet. Your blog is your domain, and should be treated like you “virtual” bedroom. Relax, have fun, and remember to smile :)

3: Learn to TAG!

Unless your blog is personal and only meant for the eyes of your family and friends, then tagging will not really be worth much in your case, but if you want to broadcast your blog to the world, make sure you learn how to TAG! Most blogging software has built in tagging capability, use it! Search engine spiders will crawl your blog looking for these, and will submit these terms to search engines, so when a user types for example “burnouts” into the search engine, your blog will come up in the search listing!

2: Learn What Your Blog Can Do

I have been using wordpress as a platform for many of my clients websites, simply because it has so many capabilities, and so many awesome widgets. For example if you are a photographer and would like to rant about your photography expeditions, why not use wordpresses store plugin to sell the photos from your expeditions! Make sure you research all blog types and choose one which will suit your purpose the best!

1: Have Fun!

The number one tip about blogging is have fun! Unless you are a multi-million dollar corperation looking to make millions of dollars through a blog filled with pre amped sales blrubs, then just have fun! There are no real “rules” when it comes to blogging. Never take it to seriously!
